oh the ways to abuse the new legendary rule
I just bought 3 Thespian’s stages, not because I want to play this combo but because I don’t want the price to go up before I get some for edh…
I build too many EDH decks (or Commander as it is now called). I'm a casual player with a limited budget, but I try to build my decks to a reasonable power level for a casual environment. This blog is where I plan on sharing them and any other thoughts I might have about Magic in general.

gktindall asked: So how do you think the change in the legendary rule is going to affect commander? My play group is freaking out about it. I think we're gonna keep playing as we always have. Personally I think the rule works well for constructed play but I'm iffy for EDH. Legendary rule was one of the few ways to deal with hexproof generals outside of board wiping.
I think there will be winners and losers with this change, and I guess it depends on what deck you’re playing as to whether it’s a good thing or not. I’m not too freaked out about it because a) it only hurts blue decks, and b) there are upsides specific to commander.
I know that clone effects are possibly the best way to currently deal with hexproof generals, but you only really have access to them if you’re playing blue. non-blue decks aren’t going to lose anything with this, and blue still has counterspells which are probably the third best way of dealing with hexproof generals (behind sweepers). it’s still going to hurt those decks… but I don’t think that it’ll be too bad once everyone has made changes to their decks to accommodate and once we’re used to the rule. Besides, it’s not completely a downside for clone creatures. You can now keep copies of generals! Now, instead of losing your Azusa-clone when it enters play, you can instead use it to play some lands. Your opponent would have already taken advantage of Azusa’s ability, so there wouldn’t have been heaps to gain from killing her, so you might as well cheat some lands in too.
As for the upside in commander… it means you can now face off against people running the same general without the game being ruined by out-legend-ruling each other. It’s particularly good for commander leagues and tournaments, as they don’t need to stop people from playing the same general. There’s also now the option of finding cool interactions with cloning your own general. :D

lorstarcutter asked: What kind of things are you running in Nin, and what stuff are you looking for? I just want to see your list.
I’ll try and post the list tomorrow. It’s basically a whole heap of creatures that have “pinging” effects as well as cards that go with them. Creatures like Niv-Mizzet, Gelectrode, etc. as well as stuff like rings of brighthearth, thousand-year elixir, Sigil of Sleep to go with them. Also, things to go with Nin like Stuffy Doll.
There are a bunch of cards I’d like for the deck, but I can’t remember them all. Some are Mind over Matter, Goblin Sharpshooter, Magebane Armor.
- Legend Rule now looks at each player individually. You can now have two Geists of Saint trafts on opposite ends of the board.
- Same applies to Planeswalker uniqueness rules. (You can no longer kill off an opponent’s JTMS with a Jace Beleren)
- Sideboard is now UP TO 15 cards. (Not 15 or 0)
- Indestructable is also now a keyword. (it can be removed by things such as humility)
- Unblockable is now NOT a keyword
I just need to sleeve them up and they’ll be ready to play. They are both missing some cards I’d like, but I’ll trade for those when I get the chance. Now I just have to put together all the other decks I’m working on. :S
